Schoolgirls discover a wealth of possibilities

Why should I study engineering? Answers to this question were given by the Departments Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as Mechanical and Process Engineering to the more than 80 participants at the taster day for schoolgirls on 29 November.

Robots, drones, 4D print objects or micro-​ and nanoparticles - the high school students awaited a varied programme organised by LIMES, the Women's Commission of the Academic Mechanical and Electrical Engineer Association.

Various lectures opened the day. Carmen Koch described her studies at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and her professional experience as a Technical Sales Engineer. The students Seraina Wurster and Leona Guo presented the study programmes of both departments and talked about their experiences. Gabriela Hug, Professor of Electric Power Systems, spoke about her studies as an electrical engineer, her work and career in academia.

The high school students could also gain hands-​on experience with the research topics of the two departments during numerous laboratory visits, including the Robotic Systems Lab and the High-​Voltage Laboratory.
