Amos Lapidoth has been full Professor of Information Theory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland since June 1999.



He was born in Jerusalem, Israel, on June 13, 1965. He received the B.A. degree in Mathematics (summa cum laude) and the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (summa cum laude) concurrently in 1986, and the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1990, all from the Technion --- Israel Institute of Technology. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1995.
In the years 1987--1992 he conducted research and development in wireless communications in the Signal Corps Research Labs (IDF) and was twice awarded the Chief of the Signal Corps Award for Creative Thinking (1990,1992). He joined the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1999. Since 1997 he has held the KDD Career Development Chair in Communications and Technology. His research interests are in Digital Communications and Information Theory.



Dr. Lapidoth is the recipient of the A. Finchey Prize for Outstanding Students of Electrical Engineering (1984), the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Communication Fellowship for Research in the Field of Communication (1990), the Rothschild Fellowship for Graduate Studies (1992), and the NSF Career Development (CAREER) award (1997).
