Student Exchange for Master Students

In line with one of the key objectives of the Bologna Declaration, namely the promotion of a widespread student mobility, D-ITET encourages its students to enlarge their horizons by carrying out part of their studies at another university.

As a rule, outgoing Master students must have completed the Bachelor Programme prior to departure.

According to ETH regulations, at least two thirds of the credit points qualifying for a master's degree must be obtained at ETH. This condition implies that a maximum of 30 credit points ECTS of those obtained at another university may be considered to count for a D-ITET Master degree.

IDEA League and other Programmes

Mobility can be horizontal, when only part of a course of study is carried out at a partner university, or vertical, when a complete course of study, typically a master's programme, is pursued at another university after graduation in a previous cycle.

Our department has mobility agreements with a number of universities in Europe, North America and Asia. The ETH Student Exchange Office provides detailed information about those agreements, available scholarships and related administrative processes.

ETH Zürich is part of the IDEA League, which supports vertical mobility among its partners and offers a grant scheme for research collaborations.

Student Exchange Support at D-ITET

The D-ITET Study-Exchange adviser supports Master Students in the preparation of their mobility programmes. Such programmes must always include the equivalent amount of ECTS credit points to be granted to the mobility students by the department upon successful performance assessment of the respective courses at the partner university.

The programme is subject to the approval of a tutor (MSc ITET/MSc EST) or the track adviser (MSc BMT).
