ETHZ MIMO-OFDM Testbed Wins Best Live Demonstration Award at ISCAS 2009
Category: IISThis years International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2009) was held in Taipei, Taiwan. It is the flagship conference of the circuits and systems society and annualy attracts more than 1000 researchers and scientists from academia and industry form all over the world. This year, for the first time, a 'live demonstration of circuits and systems' track was announced.
The MIMO research group of the Integrated Systems Laboratory (IIS) and the Communication Theory Group (CTG) participated in this track with their real-time 4x4 multi-user MIMO-OFDM testbed that was partially developed in the European project MASCOT. The testbed demonstrates wireless communication with multiple antennas transmitting at the same time and in the same frequency band to another terminal with multiple antennas. This so-called MIMO technology is forseen in several future wireless communication standards (e.g., IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 801.16, 3GPP). The testbed includes the MIMO-OFDM physical layer (including RF), a basic medium access layer (MAC) as well as Ethernet connectivity. During the session, several experiments were performed and visualized with measurements and with a live video streaming demonstration.
For their work and the excellent Presentaition the Team of ETH (represented by Markus Wenk and Patrick Maechler) received the "Best Live Demonstration Award".
